PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk. (Indocement) signed a Joint Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with KRAKATAU POSCO on Strategic Cooperation in the Utilization of Steel By-products such as granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS), steel slag, sludge, and dust as alternative raw materials for environmentally friendly cement on September 11, 2023 in Jakarta. The MoU was signed by Indocement’s President Director Christian Kartawijaya and KRAKATAU POSCO’s President Director Kim Kwang Moo.

The signing of this MoU is a continuation of the strategic cooperation that has previously been established between the two parties to conduct studies on the utilization of steel by-products in a broader scope as alternative raw materials for environmentally friendly cement to meet market needs and help reduce carbon emissions from the construction sector.

This cooperation is an effort by Indocement to mitigate climate change, previously Indocement has also used various alternative fuels such as rice husks, oil sludge, urban waste, used tires, sawdust, used packaging and refused derived fuel (RDF) to replace coal.
