Indocement once again marked an important milestone in supporting environmental conservation and biodiversity through the successful implementation of the 6th edition of the Quarry Life Award (QLA). Initiated by Heidelberg Materials, this scientific and educational competition serves as a platform for students, researchers, NGOs, and local communities to contribute ideas, innovations, and sustainable solutions within quarry areas.
Since its inception in 2012, QLA has grown into a prestigious global initiative. More than 100 quarries across 25 countries have been opened for research, attracting over 1,100 project proposals. To date, more than 300 projects have been carried out, involving over 1,000 researchers worldwide.
In this 6th edition (2024–2025), Indocement once again hosted the competition by opening two quarries in Citeureup Plant and Cirebon Plant as research sites. The competition was divided into two tracks: Research and Community, with categories covering biodiversity management, habitats and species, nature-based solutions, biodiversity and education, and connecting quarries with local communities.
Finalists were invited to conduct fieldwork between February and May 2025, a crucial phase expected to produce breakthroughs that enrich scientific knowledge while delivering tangible positive impacts on the environment and surrounding communities.
The highlight of QLA was the award ceremony held on August 12, 2025, at Harris Hotel, Cibinong, where the winners were awarded by Indocement President Director Christian Kartawijaya, Director Antonius Marcos, and Director Hasan Imer. The event served as a moment of recognition for all participants who had contributed their ideas and research.
