Human Resources Review

The Human Resources is an essential asset of the modern cement factory. Indocement invests substantially in the development and harnessing of its human resources to ensure long-term growth.

The mission statement of Indocement is to be in the business of providing quality shelter, cement and related construction materials and related services at competitive prices, in a way that promotes sustainable development. This would not be possible without adequate attention and commitment to the well-being of the people, safety, health and environmental aspects of the Company.

People

Indocement has long developed sound and in harmony relationships with its 6,179 strong personnel as at year end 2008, compared to 6,433 personnel employed by the Company in 2007. The decline was attributable mainly to voluntary retrenchment and natural resignation related to mandatory age retirement. In addition to competitive remuneration and benefits, the employees of Indocement are provided with adequate training, opportunity for career growth as well as a conducive and equalopportunity working environment that rewards excellence and teamwork. A Collective Labor Agreement between the Labor Union and the Management of the Company is well respected and provides a general reference for what is expected of the parties involved.

In 2008, Indocement began a new 12-months Executive Development Program in the development of the talent pools, in collaboration with a reputable educational institution, enrolling 30 employees of Indocement.

Safety and Health

Safety and health issues are among the top priorities of Indocement, for which the Company pays considerable attention to instituting and enforcing strict adherence to standard operating procedures as a way to mitigate safety and health risks at work. Employees and their families have adequate access to proper medical care, provided either on-site health clinics in and surrounding Indocement’s factory sites, or off-site medical treatments. Hospitalization plan is also provided to Indocement retirees for up to five years since their normal retirement age.

Other initiatives in industry safety and health best-practices at Indocement include the efforts to reduce lost time to the minimum through the so-called Zero Accident initiative and drive. Indocement also improved the safety awareness of line managers by diligently doing observations on “Near-Miss Occurances”.

People Outlook

The previous culture of Indocement rewarded employees more on the basis of personal loyalty and commitment to the Company. Today, while loyalty remains a virtue and is appreciated by the Company, managers are evaluated more on the basis of achievement as a measure of success.
As Indocement looks ahead to a highly prospective future, it is counting on a new breed of people who thrive on challenges, and understands that achievements and therefore recognition can come only from the constant pursuits of excellence in their respective fields.
